Taking that first step on the path to recovery is a courageous journey filled with challenges, growth, and transformation. In this post, we delve into Erin’s personal experiences as she has undergone a profound transformation through the Freedom Hill Recovery Program. From despair to hope, from paralysis to purpose, Erin shares her insights on the impact of the program on various aspects of her life.
Reflecting on life before entering Freedom Hill Recovery Home, Erin describes a state of hopelessness, living in despair, and devoid of any aspirations. She expresses, “I never thought my life would get better; I had lost hope and lived in despair.” Now, Erin shares a newfound sense of hope, the ability to set goals, and the support to make responsible choices. “I now think past tomorrow. I have goals, hope, and support. I’m responsible and I have a good work ethic. I know how to make good choices. I’m an amazing mom and my family has been restored. I lean on Jesus, always. I finally feel good about myself and do not live in shame anymore. I hold my head up high as I do things with a spirit of excellence through God; there is no other way.” She says, emphasizing the program’s role in her personal growth and the development of a strong work ethic.
Freedom Hill has made a significant positive impact on Erin’s overall well-being. She credits the program for instilling hope, fostering responsibility, and providing a strong support system. Erin states, “I can feel good about myself and not live in shame anymore. I can hold my head up high,” highlighting the transformative effect the program has had on her self-esteem.
The Christian aspect of the program has deeply influenced Erin’s spiritual journey. She shares learning the importance of, and soaking up moments of sitting at Jesus’ feet and walking with Him, emphasizing the importance of giving control to Him. Erin states, “Learning to give everything to Him and stop trying to control situations myself was one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned and use daily.” and credits this to shaping her spiritual growth.
Erin has learned valuable skills and coping mechanisms during the program. Quoting her, “I’m no longer making choices based on emotion,” she stresses the importance of making decisions with a clear mind and prayer focused. She also highlights the significance of Inner Healing, stating, “Inner healing is crucial for long term recovery.” as she credits the Inner Healing Class and her personal inner healing journey to being the most valuable contributors of her growth and recovery.
The program has positively impacted Erin’s relationships with family and friends. Quoting her, “I’m so much closer to everyone; I don’t keep them away anymore. I’m an amazing mom and have restored so many loving family relationships.” Erin acknowledges the support she receives from the recovery community as an essential component of maintaining sobriety.
Sharing her challenging hurdle of overcoming laziness and control, Erin emphasizes the importance of obedience and listening to God. She takes pride in the milestones she achieved at Freedom Hill such as learning to play the guitar and knitting (something many of the women voluntarily learn at Freedom Hill which helps them relax and quiet the mind), also earning the role of house chaplain, and ultimately graduating from the program. Quoting Erin, “I overcame laziness, let go of control, and successfully worked through the program – all because I got out of God’s way and obeyed what He told me.”
With a newfound sense of purpose, she expresses a desire to work in this ministry. Quoting Erin, “I actually have goals now – to work in this ministry,” highlighting the transformation from a state of despair to having concrete goals.

When asked In what ways she plans to continue applying the lessons she has learned in the program in her life, Erin joyfully replies, “I use them every single day without realizing it. They’re so integrated into my life; it’s subconscious at this point.”
